Maca root Lepidium meyenii is a powerful adaptogen that comes to us from Peru. This yellow maca is certified organically-grown, sun-dried, and gelatinized. Sometimes unofficially referred to as Peruvian ginseng, maca grows in the harsh and extreme conditions of the Andes Mountains of central Peru. The uniqueness of Peruvian maca is the fact that it is cultivated agriculturally at the highest elevations on the planet of any crop. Maca has been consumed for centuries in the Andes and has had a great recognition amongst the indigenous peoples since pre-Incan times.
The maca gelatinization processes came about in the 1990s to make raw maca powder, a cruciferous root, easier to digest. Boiling and pressurization is used to greatly reduce the starch content thus creating a more concentrated maca than raw maca.
